Prudence MacLeod's Writings

I'm not just a wanna be farmer, I'm also a writer. I write romance, sci-fi, and action/adventure. Sometimes I even blend the three just for fun.

The romance novels are listed on the left of the page. The other books are listed on the right of the page. Please enjoy. You can also check the other pages of this blog for more.

I also play a lot of World of Warcraft; if you're a player you may spot where that hobby creeps into my writing. :)

Covers

Now we’re coming down to the good stuff. It is time to choose the cover for the new book. The general opinion was that Hunter should be the title and I do agree, so Hunter it is. Now let take a look at two possible covers for Hunter.

Hunter #1

Hunter #2

Please don’t be shy folks, let me know what you think.  We need to choose the cover as we’re hoping to launch either Thursday or Friday, which one are you most likely to pick up to read, or should I try for something totally different?

Tell you what; everybody who leaves a comment will get a chance to win a free copy of one of my books, winner’s choice.

Thanks for all the help and feedback on this one.

Now for the ROW80 goals.
1.      Finish the first draft of my current project and get it off to my editor.  CM Crawford is a great editor and has very reasonable rates. Heck, she’ll even work for Amazon gift cards. The girl loves to barter. You can find her page here:

2.      Get the next project over 15K words

3.      If Ms. Crawford gets the first project back to me in time, finish the second draft during this round. If not then I will finish and hopefully publish it during the last round.

Success! Done, done, and done again. I will have to upgrade the goals for next week.

  1. I am really not fond of either of them. Neither of them scream, "Buy Me." I can tell you of all the covers you have so far on your books I like Hope, At Loose Ends, Phoenix, and Gifted. A darker background with blood comes to mind or maybe a dark background with a hand holding a knife. Those are my thoughts. Hope it helps.

    Peace,
    Morgan

    1. Hi Morgan, thanks for the feedback. Funny thing is, at one point we actually considered a dagger as the picture.

  2. I'd choose two. I would probably have chosen the first one if the person in the flowere weren't there. Good luck and congratulations on your launch.

    1. Hi Dianne, thanks for the input. We've reworked the first one taking out the flowers. I believe you're right.

  3. Truthfully, neither one. Coming in cold without knowing what the book is about, these covers don't help. I'm guessing from Morgan's comments, it's some kind of thriller, but you've got pink flowers that suggests romance. The semi-military clothes don't convince me of it either -- it looks like she could just be lazy in the way she dresses because the poses don't say anything either.

    1. Thanks for the feedback, Linda. We're reworking the cover and will put two more possibles forward for viewing on Wednesday. I'd love your take on the new efforts.

  4. I like number 1 better but without the pink flowers and double image of her. I agree that the flowers say romance, not thriller, and they are so bright that they are distracting. But the rest of number 1 is pretty powerful, I think. Hope this helps.

    1. Hi Kassandra, thanks for the thoughtful comment. I took a second look and had to agree with you. On Wednesday I will put up two more choices, one will be as you suggest. I would love your input then.

  5. I am not too crazy about either of these. With your title, wouldn't it be better to have maybe a darker cover with a woman's hand holding a dagger? Or maybe the second one with her standing there at night. The daylight makes it unreal in a way.

  6. Hey Laura, thanks for the input. You're right, neither of these covers is doing it. We've reworked the cover taking into account all the feedback we've gotten. I will post the updated version later today.
