What’s one of the drawbacks of living on a small island? One
that really bothers most folks is waiting for the boats. If there’s a lot of
traffic (e.g. hockey tournament) you might have to wait for another boat. I
will admit it could be frustrating. Most folks spend their time staring at
their phones or chatting with the other travelers.
Me, I usually have a notebook and write, or read from my
e-reader, but sometimes I knit. Winter is coming on and I’m at the age where my
joints don’t really like the damp weather.
Solution? Wool! So lately I've been
knitting something to get this writer through the winter in fine style. Finger-less mitts of pure soft wool; very much in style and super warm and friendly.
So what do you folks do when you are waiting at the doctor’s
office, the train station, airport, or wherever else you are stuck for a
while? Come on, talk to me folks, share
with Mamma MacLeod.
I read - of course! I resisted getting a smartphone for a long time, but now that I have one, I love it in times like this! If I don't feel like reading, I also have plenty of games on it. Love the mittens!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenn, I have found these quite useful and easy to knit. There'll be lots of these given at Yuletide.
ReplyDeleteI read too, but those mittens make me wish I knew how to knit. I've been having a lot of trouble with my right hand lately, usually when it's damp or cold. Those would be perfect even for when you're in the house working and your hands need a little extra warmth.
ReplyDeleteHi Marcy, I feel your pain, I do. So, green, blue, or black? (That's what's in my yarn stash in super soft wool) Oh, I'll need an address to send them to. :)
DeleteI read or write, too. Or, use my smartphone to do some research on the internet. Love the fingerless mittens. I don't knit, but I used to crochet. I may have to try that again one of these days.
ReplyDeleteHi Lynette, definitely give it a go, girl. I find knitting quite meditative.
DeleteI used to scribble in a notebook while I waited in line at the grocery store. Before e-readers and the 2 year old. I've been crocheting lately and it is very meditative and peaceful. I cannot knit, there are no hooks to the keep the yarn on the needles and no matter what i do I can't get them to stay more than a few stitches. I'll have to make myself some new handwarmers (poor circulation), mine disppeared in the move.
ReplyDeleteHey Asrai, I'm sure crocheting is as meditative as knitting. Yep, get those hand warmers on the go; winter is coming. :)
DeleteThanks Skip, they were a real joint saver first thing this morning. I'd love to see some of your crocheting.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome, Skip. Can't wait to see. :)
ReplyDeleteHow ironic. I've been knitting these like crazy lately. Super cute and fast. You saw my yarn photo the other day. ;-). It all started last year when I bought the most decadent pair at Piles Place in Seattle ... Cashmere with antique button embellishment. Swoon.
ReplyDeleteSo, I knit. I read. I write. I check Facebook and Twitter on my phone. I watch people.

Wow, Ginger, either your computer had a burp, Blogger had the hiccups, or mine has developed a stutter. Either way it seems we share a few h0obbies. Very cool. :)
