Prudence MacLeod's Writings

I'm not just a wanna be farmer, I'm also a writer. I write romance, sci-fi, and action/adventure. Sometimes I even blend the three just for fun.

The romance novels are listed on the left of the page. The other books are listed on the right of the page. Please enjoy. You can also check the other pages of this blog for more.

I also play a lot of World of Warcraft; if you're a player you may spot where that hobby creeps into my writing. :)

Guest Blogger

Hi folks, this is a re-post of something I found on another blog.  I repost it here with permission. The author has a real talent for expressing her frustration, disapproval, and all the while, staying in the voice of her generation.  I loved this and hope you all do too.

An Open Letter to a Faceless Asshat

Dear whomever keeps stealing the newspapers in my apartment building...No. No see what makes you the worlds BIGGEST dick is the following little tale:

All this paper-stealing had us thinking the local paper had fucked up our subscription when we signed up two weeks ago. So we called them, and they were crazy sorry and promised not to charge us... and then they called the delivery boy for our area and got pissy.

Correction, they got pissy at his mom. Because I doubt he answers the phone in his household. She then called us to try and sort out why we weren't getting the papers she knew her son had delivered, and to arrange some way to make sure we got our papers henceforth.

So next delivery time her son rang the doorbell and waited and handed the paper to me personally.

Do you know, Mr. Asshattus Maximus, that our delivery boy is, like, NINE tops? And has AUTISM? Did you know that thanks to you we completely unintentionally got a little autistic boy bitched out by the paper for something he didn't even do wrong?

That is some SERIOUS bad karma you are gathering up there mister.

I truly hope something vile and bitey crawls DIRECTLY up your ass.

No love,
Your Friendly Neighbourhood Lady

PS: Bald guy across the hall who has beer-gut like whoah and NEVER wears a shirt? Your creepy ass is my prime suspect. I'm watching you, creep-machine... but not too closely, because, ew dude. Seriously.

Wildflower, a tale of lesbian romance.

Here I am again, shamelessly promoting yet another of my novels.  There was a stretch of time, a number of years ago, where I penned several romances at the request of friends in the GBLT community.  I have now decided to dust them off and publish them for all to enjoy.

The Inedible Crop

Ok, it has been raining off and on for days.  The end result?  The grass has grown to where I will soon have to cut it, that or buy a goat.  Actually, I'd rather the goat, she could eat the grass and give milk.  Very useful; grass not useful.

Book Excerpt.

This is a small excerpt from a book I'm working on right now.  I do hope to have it published soon.

Abby gave a small gasp of delight as she saw the place for the first time. The house was old but well kept up, or at least she had been until recently. It seemed to Abby that the poor old girl had fallen on hard times of late. Tall and well built, the old house stood in the middle of a gently sloping meadow with her back to the road, and facing the sea.  She had been built in a time when the only highway had been the waterway.

Grocery Day

You know, there is always a bit of bad with all the good.  For example, today was my big grocery shopping day.  Now, that's no big deal for most folks, but for those of us in self imposed isolation, it presents a few more challenges.  So, here's what today looked like from here.

The full Series.

Hey there, friends of mine.  You will no doubt be happy to know that the dryer adventure was a resounding success and that it is singing sweetly to me now as the rain falls outside my window.

The Dryer!

The Dryer

I started the day with full intentions of getting some serious writing done. It didn't turn out that way.  I've spent too many days glued to the computer lately.  Today the ache in my shoulders, plus the headache, suggested to me that I should find other entertainment.

Book two of the Revival series.

At long last, after many days of rewrites and re-formatting, book two of the revival series has been published and is now available.  I am especially fond of this series, even though it was written years ago.

A weekend of fun and more.

It’s been a busy weekend.  We’ve wrestled another planting bed from the stubborn stone infested soil yesterday.  Today we visited relatives on the big island and raided their overflowing flower beds for donations.  Upon our return K hurried to get the treasures in the soil while I magically produced a meal. While all this was going on, the dogs, who had been left on their own for over nine hours in the house, were racing and chasing about the yard, exulting in a bit of freedom.

A tale's tale

Reunion

Years ago, when I first began to write a full story, instead of just telling one, I used only pen and paper.  The tale grew, and so did my darling’s frustration with my handwriting.  In desperation, she bought me and aging computer and taught me to use it. I love it, and the story began to grow once again.  In the end, it cover several years, and became three books. (So far.)

Writer's tip

Hi folks, just a quick tip I picked up on Twitter.  Check this out, it's good info.

Dunce Cap

Some days it just doesn’t pay to get out of bed.  I had a day like that recently.  I will tell you about it now before someone else does it for me. sigh

It began innocently enough, catch up on a bit of housework, then a quick review of the activities on-line, and then a long brisk walk with the dogs.  So far, so good.  However, it was at this point that I realized I had to cut the grass, or buy a cow because it was starting to look like hay.  Dutifully, I pulled out the mower and began the process.

Two New Novels

Sometimes a rainy morning is useful.  Today, for example, it is just perfect.  While my darling slept in,  I arose early (a whimpering, dancing dog can do that to you) and had a bit of time to get some extra work done.  I’ve been preparing two manuscripts for the publisher, chipping away at the final preparation all week, and this morning I was able to upload them both.  Since the rest of North America was still asleep, there was little waiting for the programs to work, and so, success.  I now have two new tales of high adventure for your enjoyment.  You can find them here:

The rise of the Phoenix

The Phoenix, it is one of my personal favorite stories that I have written.  It was originally a short story that I submitted to an international sci-fi writing contest.  It didn’t win any prizes, but it won me a few encouraging comments.  I then tried to submit it as a serial, several short stories, to be published one at a time.  No luck there either, so, eventually, I blended them into a single novel.

Life at the edge of the world.

It can be a little different out here, depends on the weather I guess.  The weather and an old girl’s short memory process.  For example; last Sunday was a bright sunny day, delightful.  My lady love and I took the dogs to what passes for a beach here.  Don’t think warm sands and small bikinis, think tumbled stone the size of your head and warm sweaters.  Anyway, as the lads were snuffling through the tall grasses, we spotted movement in the waters.  We watched as, less than ten meters away, a huge seal made his way to shore and laboriously worked his way up onto the rocks then settled down to rest.  A few moments later the lads got into a bit of mischief and I had to call them back.

Second Novel Published

Ok, I’ll confess, I didn’t write another novel that fast; I have a number already finished.  All I have to do is refine the formatting and then submit the manuscript, cross my fingers, and wait.

First Rose

First Rose

Well, it has been a few days now since my last post, and they have been busy days.  The large pile of stone and rubble have been removed from the front of the house, slowly, but removed.  We used many of the largest pieces of stone to build yet another raised bed, in which we planted the first rosebush. Since we have named her Briar Rose Cottage, it is only fitting that there be roses growing.

Another use for a rainy day.

Another cold rainy day, typical for this part of the world at this time of year.  Yesterday it was actually quite warm, hot even, and I spent the day out of doors. I washed the salt off the car, a gift from the last ferry ride, I hung out the washing, cut the grass, and anything else I could find to do to keep me outside.  Yes, of course the dogs got a long walk, even before the work started.  I know my proper place in the hierarchy of the pack.
