I don't know if you remember, but back in January I set out a seriously tough writing and publishing schedule for this year. They say if you want to make the gods laugh, tell them your plans. (pounds head on desk in frustration) Yep, it has all gone to hell in a hand basket.
Things began to unravel when I got sick last spring. (I never get sick...well, almost never) I was making up for lost time after that when I had a computer meltdown. Argh! But that's not the worst of it. Nope, I have to own this one. I was in such a hurry to get back on track that I completely buggered up the timelines in Blue Rider.
Yep, my bad. However, the editor caught it and we have been slogging away at the fixes. It has reached the point where I'm going to do a rewrite to make it sensible.
Now, here's the kicker. Summer finally arrived and, after a hard look at all the work needed on the house and property, reality set in. I am just not going to have the time or energy to get this writing schedule back on track. I have learned the hard way that when you force it too hard, it shows in what has been written. Therefore, a hard decision has been made.
Over the summer I will write only as time permits. Publication of Blue Rider has been set back to September to allow time to make it right. In the meantime, just to get my head back into the fun of writing again, rainy days will see me spending time writing a new lesbian romance. (getting back to my roots) With luck it will see the publishing gods in the fall.
Sometimes the rocks in the road are so big you have to take time to find a path around them or to stop, get out your sledge hammer, and break them down to a manageable size. I don't like the word failure and I won't use it here, but I have to face reality and reset my goals.
I'll keep you posted on whatever progress I make. Next week I'll tell you how I got into writing and publishing. Maybe in the coming weeks I'll give you a peek into the new lesbian romance just for fun.
Bright blessings

My thoughts are with you, lady. Some days are tougher than others, and some years even more so. Let writing be your escape for now. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Heather. Yeah, for now I'll just write whatever comes into my head when I get the chance to sit to the keyboard. Tough times don't last, tough people do. :)
DeleteYou will get there! Just remember that goals are roll-overable, and what you don't get done in this next six months, you'll learn from and you'll be better equipped for next year's brand new goals! Besides, if you get sick, you really can't help that! <3
ReplyDeleteThanks Natalie. I will reassess and set new goals once September gets here. I just get really fussy when the fates steer me in a direction I hadn't planned to go. tee hee
DeleteWell Prudence, at least you're flexible. In this day and age, you have to be flexible. Things will get better and usually they don't until you sit back and take a breather. Put everything into perspective. Then attack!
ReplyDeleteKeep it up and stay well.

Hey Patricia, right you are. I hate to give in, but sometimes you have to step back and recharge. Here's hoping you have a great summer too. :)
